Sachin Waze’s NIA custody extended till Apr 3
Mumbai Court extended the NIA custody of Assistant Inspector of Police (API) Sachin Waze, who is the main accused in the SUV Scorpio case. A month ago, a Scorpio-laden SUV car Scorpio was found parked near Antilia, in front of the Mumbai home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. A threatening letter was also found in the car. Waze is the main accused in the case, who is currently being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Additional Solicitor-General Anil Singh, who is representing the NIA, sought extension of Waze’s custody for 15 days, saying the agency had seized 62 bullets from Waze’s house, which is yet to be accounted for, as he was given police account Had issued only 30 bullets.
He contended that when Waze had allegedly gone to Antilia to stand the SUV, he allegedly collected and destroyed some important CCTV footage from several locations. Simultaneously, Singh said that Waze used a fake ID card for investigation in a five-star hotel. The NIA has already seized about half a dozen luxury cars and burnt clothes, mobile phones, other samples, and blood marks have been found from the vehicles, which have now been sent for DNA profiling and further forensic examination।
Seeking extension of Waze’s custody, the NIA said that she wanted to interrogate him and verify his statements by confronting him with the other accused arrested in connection with the case. Waze’s NIA custody ended on Thursday, after which he was produced before a special NIA court. In the SUV case found near Antilia on 25 February, the agency has got the approval to keep Waze in his custody for nine more days ie 3 April।
In his presentation before the court, Waze pleaded that the NIA petition should be dismissed, as he is innocent and being implicated in the entire case. Waze urged the court, saying, ‘I am being made a scapegoat in this whole incident. I have nothing to do with crime. Waze was arrested on 13 March. Waze was arrested four days after the NIA took over the investigation on March 9. Politics has been hot since the matter came to light।
The NIA has made several serious allegations in this case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for terrorist activities. Even the agency has now taken over the responsibility of the case related to the death of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiren. The explosive-laden Scorpio owner and Thane businessman Hiren was found dead under mysterious circumstances on March 5, since which the case has become even more heated।
