Although the telecom companies have given a big shock to the common man by increasing the tariffs after a month the telecom regulator has cheered the mobile users. TRAI has introduced a new service quality standard.
In which the regulator has made a provision for telecom companies to compensate customers in case of service disruption for more than 24 hours at the district level. Notably, if a company is not meeting the standards, the fine will also be doubled. Let’s find out what kind of information is provided by TRAI.
Under the new rules, telecom operators will have to offer tariff concessions to postpaid customers in case of network disruption in any district, while connection validity will be extended for prepaid customers. TRAI said that if such network disruption lasts for more than 24 hours, the service provider will refund the amount to the registered customer of the district in the next bill.
The regulator will count the period of network disruption for more than 12 hours in a calendar day for calculating the tariff discount or validity extension. However, this relief will not be available in case of disruption of telecom services due to natural calamities.
TRAI new rules:
After nearly a month of hike in mobile tariffs, the telecom regulator is now in action mode. TRAI has issued new rules regarding quality standards. Telecom companies have said that if a company’s service is disrupted for more than 24 hours or if the network is unavailable, that company will compensate the customer. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) new rules, the penalty for not meeting each quality standard has been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
