Union Cabinet approves President’s Rule in Puducherry
New Delhi : The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to impose President’s rule in Puducherry. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Narayanasamy resigned before the confidence vote and the Congress-led government of the Union Territory fell। The proposal to this effect was approved in the Union Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister।
After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters that the Narayanasamy-led government resigned in Puducherry after some ruling party MLAs parted ways with the party।
He said that after the resignation of the Chief Minister, no one claimed to form the government. After this, the Lieutenant Governor recommended dissolution of Assembly in Puducherry। Javadekar said that the Union Cabinet approved this proposal। After this, the assembly will be dissolved after the approval of the President। He informed that the dates of assembly elections in Puducherry are expected to be announced in the coming days and after that, the model code of conduct will be implemented।
